Colds...blah

So our baby girl has her first real cold.  She looks miserable, poor girl!  It's the type of cold that you can see all over their face.  The watery, droopy eyes, red runny nose, nasal congestion, warm head.  I hate seeing my little ones sick.  We are giving her Elderberry, Vit D and Vit C, so hopefully it will pass quickly.  I've got her sleeping in her swing tonight so hopefully she will be able to breath better than laying down.
I started her on solids a couple days ago.  It isn't going very well.  I really watered down her sweet potato today and I think she finally managed to swallow some.  Her normal reaction is to continually spit it out :)  Hopefully she will get the hang of it soon.  She isn't lacking for weight though.  She is still nice and plump!!
Well, it's a short one tonight cause baby girl is crying again.....hopefully this mama will get some sleep tonight!

Updates

Here are a few updates over the past couple weeks:
Baby girl has 2 teeth now.  She is getting so vocal!!  She laughs at everything.  Loves watching the kids.  They enjoy making her laugh.  She just turned 8 months....so I have introduced solids.  We are trying sweet potato and she is doing ok.  I tried a little apple sauce last night and that didn't go over well at all.  We will stick with the veggies for now.

Hubby has been home for a week now.  We all LOVE it!!  Hubby and I go for an early morning walk every day.  He has built a second chicken coop for our second group of birds.  One has injured its leg some how and is limping.  One chicken died from our first batch because it was egg-bound.  It hadn't laid an egg in over a week and we found her dead one morning.  The kids were very upset about Millie.  Hubby is also installing a pole and meter up at the front of our long driveway to hopefully help get a better internet signal.

We are getting a lot done during school hours!  It is so nice that hubby can take the little ones while I teach some of the more intense subjects without interruption now.  The kids are really enjoying our human body unit right now in Science.

Hubby also went out to lunch this week with his former co-workers.  He is going to keep that up on a regular basis with the guys there.  Some good friendships!

That's about it for right now....

Christmas in September

We ordered the kids' Christmas gift early this year because we wanted them to get some use out of it before the winter months set in.  We got them this giant dome and they have been enjoying it today!  It stands 7 feet high and 17 feet across.  Was it ever a beast to put together.  I got a nice goose egg on my head and a squished toe and hubby is hurting today.  It took a lot of work to assemble it but we look forward to the many years it will provide entertainment for the kids.  Love being outside.....

Finished!

Hubby finished his last day with Answers in Genesis today.  He is now self-employed and we are EXCITED!  What a blessing it will be to have him home full time now.  He had a rough day today saying goodbye to all his coworkers and friends.  He has thoroughly enjoyed working with this ministry and with the people there.  He is currently in the process of updating his website for a new launch by the end of October.  Exciting times ahead....God is so good!

Birthday boy

Our boy turned 7 today!  What a little man he is becoming.  He looks up to big brother for everything, he is quite shy, loves to read like his siblings, is very active and is doing well in school.  Today we went to the Creation Museum and saw the new Allosaurus.  He is a biggy!!  Here are some pics from today.

More chickens and more updates

We are getting 4 more chickens this week!!  Yay!  The chickens have been doing really well laying an egg a day each.  Having 10 chickens will be nice and a good supply for our sized family.
We are getting ready to close the pool next week.  It has been so enjoyable this summer and I look forward to next summer when we can get in it again!
Hubby is heading into his last week at the museum.  I'm sure it is going to be hard saying goodbye to such great friends and coworkers.  I'm so excited he will be home now!!  What a blessing for our family :)  He is busy with updates to his side business.  He will be launching a new website design soon for his software (hopefully in October) and it is looking fantastic so far.  We are very excited and hoping for an increase in subscribers as well.  Hubby was able to share with his coworkers what he will be doing after he leaves the museum and he received alot of great feedback.  God has blessed so much!
I've been swapping out the kids summer clothes for their winter outfits.  The cooler weather has been so nice.  I LOVE the fall!  Looking forward to the cool evenings and the walks up to the road and back.
School is going well and the kids are looking forward to Science soon (one of their favorite subjects)  We have finished up Geography and almost done Civics, so we will head into learning about the human body.  Always an interesting and fun topic!!
Baby girl is doing well.  No teeth yet, still haven't started her on solids yet, she is close to clapping, not sitting up yet, she does get her knees tucked up under her but no crawling yet.  She is a happy, happy girl.
I think that is about all the is new around here......

Happenings

So we have been busy, busy, busy around here.  Our chickens are enjoying their new home and producing 6 eggs a day.  The kids love the 'chore' of collecting eggs and letting them out to roam.

We've been having lots and lots of rain so mowing is becoming a weekly thing.  We have about 5-6 acres that needs constant mowing so it can take several days to get it all done.  I actually LOVE mowing the grass!!  I get out on the riding lawn mower and have several hours of quiet time which is nice :)

We have had company as well.  My parents stopped in for a visit, then we had friends from Maine pass through whom we haven't seen in 15 years!  He was hubby's best man at our wedding.  All the kids got along wonderfully well and didn't want to see them leave!!   We also have guests this weekend as well.... busy, busy, busy!

Hubby has a side business that has supplemented our income for several years now.  God has been so gracious in blessing this business to where it is going to be hubby's full time employment.  He has loved working at the Creation Museum and will miss his co-workers (and friends) but we are so thankful for this opportunity for hubby to work from home!  This will be his last month there.

All the kids are doing great.  School is going well and we are getting much accomplished.  The kids are enjoying lots of new books, so I will have to share their new favorites in another post soon!
