Christmas present

Hubby was excited about the gift he got me.  He put alot of thought into it and boy was I thrilled!!!  I now have a muslin backdrop with frame, the lighting, and tripod for my portrait photography.  Can you see the smile on my face!!!  We are still playing around with the lighting to get it just right but here are a few shots from today with some of my beautiful subjects.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all my family and friends!
What a year it has been for our family, full of joy and tears but always full of God's abundant blessings.  We have welcomed a new daughter into our family, said goodbye to a loving father and grandmother, moved to a beautiful new location, and became self-employed.  We thank God for His many provisions and are so thankful for His constant, unfailing love for us.  We are especially thankful during this holiday season for the love of our Heavenly Father, sending His Son to earth to provide a way of salvation for those who receive the free gift of faith.  What a gracious God we have!  Thank you Jesus for being our sacrifice.

So we don't decorate much for Christmas.  I am quite satisfied with plugging in a 3ft, pre-lit tree and putting a few bows on it!  We did make a small purchase for Daddy though....the UK bear is quite a nice touch don't you think!  It put a smile on his face :)
I also decided to try my hand at shortbread cookies!  Oooohhhh my....they are so good!  I found some mini cookie cutters and made them just like our neighbor used to make them when I was a kid.  Oh the memories.

Birthday girl

Our girl turned 5 a few days ago.  What a big girl she is becoming!  She wants so desperately to start school with the big kids.  I'm going to try to begin her on some phonics lessons on a regular basis now.  She loves to be in the kitchen with me when I'm cooking.  She tries to keep up with the big kids as much as possible in all they do.  She loves to draw and does people pretty good.
She wanted a ladybug theme for her cake and I found a cute idea on how to make the ladybugs.  All the older kids bought her a gift with their own money and she was just thrilled.  Thank you to those who sent cards, gifts, called, and sang to her.  It made her day very special.
We love you precious girl.  Your big brown eyes and pinchable cheeks light up our family!

We went down south for Thanksgiving and were able to spend time with family.  We took some 4 generation photos (missing great Grandma this year) and went to visit Grandpa's grave (missing him!!)  We were able to catch up with church family again, and visit with aunts/uncles.  We picked up a few deals on clothes to boot which was an added bonus.  Here are a few pics from the trip.

We had a quick 2 day trip to Canada to see family.  Baby girl had not yet met her Great Grandpa, so we were able to have a very nice visit with him and get some 4 generation pictures.  The kids always enjoy playing with their cousins and seeing Grandparents/Aunts and Uncle.  Here are just a couple pics from the trip.

Just a few updates.
Baby girl is doing well.  She is finally enjoying her solids now.  Her menu is squash, sweet potato, prunes, apricot/applesauce, blueberry/applesauce.  She eats twice a day and still nurses frequently.  She is a very happy girl and very vocal!  Not quite crawling yet but rocks back and forth on her hands and knees and moves backwards.  Says 'dada' and other little sounds.  Still only 2 teeth (that are sharp!!)
Our 9 yr old lost a tooth today and our oldest is about to lose another.  She just had a dentist appt and they are talking about braces soon.  I think we are going to wait until her 'eye' teeth have dropped before we move forward with braces.
Everyone else is doing well.  All are healthy!  I'm in the process of making some immune boosting tinctures.  I LOVE herbs!  Need to make sure we keep our immunity up as the winter months approach.  Going to be making a new elderberry syrup as well which looks yummy!  Still waiting for a few ingredients to arrive.
We had a great visit with my parents.  The kids love spending time with them and showing them around the 'farm' and we were even able to do a little exploring.  We have big plans for next year as we are seriously considering goat farming (for meat) and rabbits (for meat).  I'm hoping to also get into canning as well next year.  We are going to be busy busy!!

Here's some pics of our 'farm' life!

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Not too much new going on here.  We are rabbit-sitting right now for a family at church.  The kids are loving them!  These four rabbits are going to produce lots of babies for meat eating :)  The kids now want to add rabbits to our list of farm animals to get here.  We will see.  I think we tasted rabbit in Newfoundland one time so I'm up for it in the future!

Baby girl still has a little bit of her cold yet.  The other 2 are pretty much over it now.  No one else came down with it.  Our 2 yr old sprained her wrist yesterday so she is a little grumpier these days.
Baby girl is still not really liking her 'solids'.  We have attempted Sweet Potato and some of the applesauces.  She LOVED the apricot/applesauce one.  I need to find my BabyBullet so I can start making her food.  It's in a box packed away downstairs somewhere......

We have been purchasing a few more items for around the house lately.  Adding a little decoration here and there.  It is coming along very nicely and I like seeing the rooms all come together.

It is definitely getting colder around here.  I LOVE the fall!!!  Our walks are so much nicer when you're not sweating up a storm!  I think we need to do one more grass mowing yet.  Hopefully this will be the last one before winter comes.  We had a tornado touch down close to the house yesterday.  Three inches of rain and lots of wind and hail.  We bunkered down in the basement for a little while, but when we came back upstairs, saw the prettiest rainbow!!  Beautiful!  It was tense there for a little while.

Speaking of winter, I went on an eBay shopping blitz and bought all of us some winter snowsuits.  We all now have a one piece snowsuit.  They are so neat.  I liked the idea of a one piece to prevent snow from going down our backs or snow pants.  They are easy zip on and we all look pretty snazzy I must say.  Also helps we got most of them for over 50% off!

That's about it for now.

So our baby girl has her first real cold.  She looks miserable, poor girl!  It's the type of cold that you can see all over their face.  The watery, droopy eyes, red runny nose, nasal congestion, warm head.  I hate seeing my little ones sick.  We are giving her Elderberry, Vit D and Vit C, so hopefully it will pass quickly.  I've got her sleeping in her swing tonight so hopefully she will be able to breath better than laying down.
I started her on solids a couple days ago.  It isn't going very well.  I really watered down her sweet potato today and I think she finally managed to swallow some.  Her normal reaction is to continually spit it out :)  Hopefully she will get the hang of it soon.  She isn't lacking for weight though.  She is still nice and plump!!
Well, it's a short one tonight cause baby girl is crying again.....hopefully this mama will get some sleep tonight!

Here are a few updates over the past couple weeks:
Baby girl has 2 teeth now.  She is getting so vocal!!  She laughs at everything.  Loves watching the kids.  They enjoy making her laugh.  She just turned 8 I have introduced solids.  We are trying sweet potato and she is doing ok.  I tried a little apple sauce last night and that didn't go over well at all.  We will stick with the veggies for now.

Hubby has been home for a week now.  We all LOVE it!!  Hubby and I go for an early morning walk every day.  He has built a second chicken coop for our second group of birds.  One has injured its leg some how and is limping.  One chicken died from our first batch because it was egg-bound.  It hadn't laid an egg in over a week and we found her dead one morning.  The kids were very upset about Millie.  Hubby is also installing a pole and meter up at the front of our long driveway to hopefully help get a better internet signal.

We are getting a lot done during school hours!  It is so nice that hubby can take the little ones while I teach some of the more intense subjects without interruption now.  The kids are really enjoying our human body unit right now in Science.

Hubby also went out to lunch this week with his former co-workers.  He is going to keep that up on a regular basis with the guys there.  Some good friendships!

That's about it for right now....

Christmas in September

We ordered the kids' Christmas gift early this year because we wanted them to get some use out of it before the winter months set in.  We got them this giant dome and they have been enjoying it today!  It stands 7 feet high and 17 feet across.  Was it ever a beast to put together.  I got a nice goose egg on my head and a squished toe and hubby is hurting today.  It took a lot of work to assemble it but we look forward to the many years it will provide entertainment for the kids.  Love being outside.....

Hubby finished his last day with Answers in Genesis today.  He is now self-employed and we are EXCITED!  What a blessing it will be to have him home full time now.  He had a rough day today saying goodbye to all his coworkers and friends.  He has thoroughly enjoyed working with this ministry and with the people there.  He is currently in the process of updating his website for a new launch by the end of October.  Exciting times ahead....God is so good!

Birthday boy

Our boy turned 7 today!  What a little man he is becoming.  He looks up to big brother for everything, he is quite shy, loves to read like his siblings, is very active and is doing well in school.  Today we went to the Creation Museum and saw the new Allosaurus.  He is a biggy!!  Here are some pics from today.
